Head of Compliance & Regulation

Salary: £90,000 – £110,000 base + bonus
A fast-growing international payments and fintech business is seeking an experienced Head of Compliance & Regulation to lead its regulatory, compliance, and risk strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
This is a senior leadership role working closely with Legal, Product, Treasury, and Engineering teams to support the compliant scaling of payments, cross-border money movement, crypto, and Merchant-of-Record (MoR) operations globally.
The Role
This is a high-impact position suited to a compliance leader who thrives in fast-growth fintech environments and enjoys building robust frameworks that enable international expansion.
You will act as the primary point of contact for regulators, banks, PSPs, and strategic partners, while designing scalable operating models that support new market entry and product innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead regulatory engagement, licensing, and approvals across multiple jurisdictions
- Own and continuously enhance the end-to-end compliance framework across payments and MoR operations
- Oversee AML, CFT, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring frameworks
- Design compliant operating models for collections, payouts, acquiring, and cross-border flows
- Ensure strong KYC, customer and merchant due diligence processes
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering teams to embed compliance into payment flows and systems
- Manage regulatory reporting, audits, and statutory compliance requirements
- Provide expert guidance on regulatory changes and translate requirements into practical operational controls
- Manage relationships with regulators, PSPs, banks, and external advisors
- Act as MLRO and/or Data Protection Officer where required
Key Requirements:
- 8–12+ years in payments, fintech, or financial services compliance
- Strong AML, sanctions, and regulatory reporting experience
- Proven success working across multiple jurisdictions
- Experience with cross-border payments or Merchant-of-Record models
