The Compliance & Ethics Function
Risk and Compliance at BNY support all business lines and legal entities globally, maintaining a robust risk management culture and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. The organisation includes functions such as Risk Management, Compliance, Corporate Security, Information Risk Management, and Business Continuity.
The European Bank Compliance Advisory team, located in the Brussels Head Office, acts as the second line of defence for the BNY European Bank Head Office based in Belgium. The team is supported by local Compliance teams based in the BNY European Bank branch jurisdictions.
The team interprets and provides advice to the Legal Entity and business activities on Belgian and EU regulatory requirements, oversees compliance risks across business lines, supports consistent application of compliance policies and controls, identifies emerging risks and reports on those to senior governance committees. It also ensures that business activities of the Legal Entity are conducted with integrity.
Role
As a member of the Compliance Advisory team, you will play a key role in ensuring that BNY’s European Bank Head Office maintains a strong and effective compliance framework aligned with Belgian and European regulatory expectations.
Your responsibilities include advising the business on compliance matters, interpreting and supporting implementation of regulatory requirements, assessing controls, supporting governance committee reporting, contributing to Compliance owned regulatory submissions, and participating in strategic compliance initiatives including automation and AI‑enabled improvements.

Key Responsibilities
- Regulatory Advisory & Oversight
- Provide expert advice on Belgian and EU regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments, brief and support the business with implementation.
- Review and approve new products, services, and related required organizational arrangements.
- Identify emerging compliance risks, assess them and report issues to governance committees through periodic management information reports.
- Compliance Framework & Controls
- Perform the annual Compliance risk assessment of Legal entity business activities, including review of the Laws & Regulations inventory, and related associated policies and risk and control attributes.
- Review and update policies.
- Maintain documentation of outsourced compliance tasks up-to-date and in line with regulatory requirements.
- Reporting & Governance
- Contribute to the preparation of the periodic Compliance Management reporting to senior governance bodies.
- Prepare annual regulatory returns owned by the Compliance function.
- Support the Deputy Head of Compliance in participating to meetings as delegates when requested.
- Stakeholder & Regulator Engagement
- Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, peers and other control functions.
- Support responses to regulatory enquiries.
- Promote a strong compliance culture.
- Represent Compliance at governance committees and forums as delegate.
- Projects, Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Participate in compliance enhancements and digital transformation projects.
- Contribute to initiatives improving the effectiveness of the Compliance function.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
- 5–7 years of experience in Financial Services.
- Strong understanding of Belgian and EU regulatory frameworks applicable to credit institutions
- Experience engaging with business stakeholders and executives.
- Strong analytical and communication skills (written, oral).
- Highly organised, able to manage competing priorities.
- Fluency in English (working language – oral and written) and proficiency in French and/or Dutch.
Additional Qualifications
- Professional certification (e.g., Febelfin Compliance Certification) is a plus.
- Experience with Microsoft tools and AI‑based solutions.
